The EU CBRN CoE released its latest Newsletter sharing the main updates and highlights from the Initiative’s eight partner regions. The resuming of face-to-face activities throughout the CoE network stands out as the underlying theme in this new issue, after two years of remote and virtual activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Readers will find in the release an in-depth feature about a two full-day field exercise carried out in Beirut, Lebanon, to strengthen the country’s first response capabilities during the different phases of a CBRN terrorism emergency. The publication also presents a three-volume series of CBRN Forensics Guidebooks aimed to advance guidance, policies and best practices to build up the forensics skills needed for the successful investigation and prosecution of CBRN-related criminal cases.

This Volume 18 puts a spotlight on gender parity within the CBRN domain. President of WiN Ukraine, a national chapter of the non-profit organisation Women in Nuclear (WiN) Global, reflects on her piece on the importance of establishing a ‘Women in CBRN’ international support network in order to promote cooperation among women professionals engaged in these fields.

Of particular relevance for the EU CBRN CoE’s partner countries is the front page’s contribution on the newly developed CBRN risk assessment training package. Available to all CoE partner regions, this tailored to needs methodology aims to help countries to rank their most important CBRN risks and to achieve a more structured prioritisation of these into their CBRN National Strategies and National Actions Plans.

Other relevant updates include the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the African Centre for Resilience to Epidemics CARE, a benchmark in safety and biosecurity, in Senegal; success stories of graduates from a Nuclear Masters established in Thailand with EU support; or the launch of two new CoE projects led by the  EUP2P programme  on export control for dual-use goods in South East Asia, Middle East and the Gulf countries.
