Description and contribution of the EU CBRN CoE

Benin has benefited from the implementation of several EU CBRN CoE projects in the AAF region, namely P411, P692, P713, P954, and the CBRN Master's programme. These projects have supported the advancement of risk mitigation practices concerning high risk chemical facilities, or the safe transportation of dangerous goods by road and rail, among others.

Results and impact

The above projects enabled capacity-building and awareness-raising activities on CBRN risk mitigation in Benin. This includes the engagement of national experts in CBRN regional workshops, the CBRN Master's programme, and in training and outreach sessions on safe transportation of dangerous goods by road and rail. Also, the country counts now with a CBRN expert database.

Key lessons learned

The successful implementation of EU CBRN CoE projects in Benin have had a positive impact in different ways: CBRN risk mitigation is being incorporated into new national regulations; an increased political will, commitment and support from the Beninese government to tackle such risks; and greater awareness on CBRN risk mitigation among national stakeholders.
