Description and contribution of the EU CBRN CoE
Since the Russian invasion, Ukraine has received strong support from the EU CBRN CoE. This includes the provision of humanitarian/medical aid and CBRN equipment, the allocation of additional funding to address urgent needs, the translation of manuals and training courses, the delivery of training activities, and other daily help.
Results and impact
Ukraine’s front-line officers and medical staff received humanitarian aid and equipment. Law enforcement authorities followed training in detection, prevention and prosecution of CBRN incidents, while the Prosecutor’s Guide to Chemical & Biological Crimes was distributed in Ukrainian. Workshops were organised to foster interoperability in tackling CBRN hybrid threats. Support was provided to counter Russian propaganda and disinformation on CBRN risks.
Key lessons learned
Timely and targeted support during difficult times is very crucial. Ukraine disseminated CBRN videos to their population, put into practice the knowledge and equipment obtained through different CoE projects, and made use of all channels of communication available to call for and receive the support needed. In summary, this challenging situation successfully put to the test the fourteen-year history of Ukraine as CoE Partner Country.
