On 12 February 2025, a meeting took place between Mr. Abduvakkos Rafikov, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Head of the Regional Secretariat for Central Asia of the EU CBRN CoE Initiative, and Mr. Wim Riepma, Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the EU to Uzbekistan.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in CBRN risk mitigation across Central Asia, with an emphasis on Uzbekistan. Both sides highlighted the importance of regional collaboration, capacity building, and the implementation of effective strategies to address CBRN threats.
During the meeting, it was emphasised that the impact of the EU CBRN CoE Initiative extends beyond immediate risk mitigation, contributing to peace and stability, safety and security.
EU CBRN CoE support to CBRN risk mitigation in Central Asia
The on-going projects under the EU CBRN CoE Initiative in Central Asia include capacity-building and specialized training for national experts, and support to development of comprehensive strategies to effectively manage CBRN risks and threats.
These efforts are tailored to address the specific needs of Central Asian countries while aligning with European best practices.
The dialogue also explored opportunities for further technical assistance, knowledge sharing, and joint initiatives to bolster resilience against CBRN risks.
The meeting underscored the ongoing partnership between Uzbekistan and the European Union in promoting regional stability and security through effective CBRN risk management.
