Context
It is essential that Iraq, Jordan and Lebanon build on their resources to respond and mitigate the consequences of a CBRN incident and following emergency situation. Among different responders, the health service must insure that that appropriate safety measures are being taken and health care measures are being provided by emergency departments, ambulance services and other providers to save lives, guard the health and safety, and assist to treat potentially large numbers of contaminated casualties. Rapid response is essential in order to limit damage. The overall objective of this project is to enhance the systems in place (in the MIE region) for medical preparedness and medical emergency response to CBRN incidents.
Objective
The specific objectives of the project are:
- to strengthen and enhance national long-term training system through the provision of the specialized/advanced course on urgent medical assistance in CBRN events/disasters to the future trainers of the trainers, and to develop training guidelines, materials and curricula on a disaster medicine/medical management of CBRN incidents that will be implemented into training programs in the PCs;
- to increase the preparedness and response capacity to the CBRN incidents of the medical responders through drafting guidelines and SOPs on medical management of CBRN incident, contingency planning, comprehensive training, practical exercises and improvement of the technical capabilities of national hospital teams through the provision of the technical equipment for training;
- to strengthen regional and national capacities with respect to limitation of public health consequences following a CBRN incident in the Middle East region through awareness rising for policy and decision makers on CBRN threats and sharing the experiences on the regional level.
